Best. Concert. Ever.

And coming from me, that's saying quite a bit. Suede's performance last Saturday at Philly's Tin Angel was phenomenal. Although I've been a Suede fan for years, I've never had the pleasure of seeing her perform live. I can't believe I deprived myself of "The Diva" for so long.

Suede mostly performed songs from her newest CD, Dangerous Mood (I was hoping for Sister, but I quickly got over it). Accompanied by the incomparable Janice Friedman on piano and Max Weber on bass, Suede gave the impression that performing is an effortless (and fun-filled)endeavor. The title song, Dangerous Mood, contained flawless improvisations from the trio that left my jaw on the floor. I can think of only one word to describe the musicality: flawless. So often after a live performance, I can pick apart the technical aspects. Not this time.

I've seen countless Broadway shows, Linda Eder and Cher concerts, and many other mainstream and indie artists, but none of them can hold a candle to Suede. I was enamored with her from start to finish. There's something about her voice that you have to hear to understand. It's so incredibly rich, bluesy, and real. She's also able to turn it way down for more emotional songs such as Love and Regret, a song dedicated to her recently deceased father.

I have never encountered a performer so real, authentic, and genuine both on and off the stage. I've been listening to the new CD all week, able to connect with it in a much different way after seeing her live. I can't understand why the entire world isn't singing her praises. This was an incredible experience I'll never forget.

Do yourself a favor and buy Dangerous Mood. I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
