Who is he kidding?
Lunacy. Absolute lunacy. Yesterday, James Dobson, fundie extraordinaire, released a press release with this unhinged tidbit:
"I know the dangers of what (Sens.) Clinton and Obama stand for. I know what they will do to us. And yet, I'm being asked to do something that contradicts my conscience."
I find it hilarious that Dobson is concerned over what Clinton or Obama might do to him. The fact of the matter is that nothing will change for Dobson and Co. if we elect a democratic president. Dobson et al will still be able to:
•Preach hate and intolerance from pulpits, claiming that it’s the irrefutable word of God (read ancient desert text)
•Use junk science and the outrageous claims of the so called “ex gays” to insist that homosexuality is abnormal, deviant, and "curable"
•Picket the funerals of dead soldiers, murder victims, and celebrities
•Attempt to get laws passed that will create a theocracy (they’re having a tough time doing this even with a rethug in the white house now)
•Claim that their moral code is an absolute truth, and attempt to force everyone to follow said code
•Boycott companies for advancing the “homosexual agenda”
•Continue to fight for their families and their marriages while blatantly refusing to acknowledge everyone else’s families and marriages
•Meddle in the affairs of state causing the dissolution governments
•Misuse the tax exempt status of their organizations to endorse candidates for office (alright, that one may actually get changed)
•I'm sure they would also be allowed to feed the poor, clothe the naked, and all that other stuff that they don't bother to do most of the time
Meanwhile, if someone like Huckabee is elected president, I have to worry about the following:
•Having my relationship with G criminalized
•Never having my marriage recognized by the government (which denies me thousands of rights and privileges that hetero couples take for granted)
•Being forced to follow a moral code in which I do not believe
•Living in a theocracy, where Christianity is sanctioned and enforced by the state (think the Taliban, but here in the land of the free)
Who do you suppose has more to lose as a result of this year's presidential election??
